In and around the village of Bad Mitterndorf there are numerous marked walking trails to suit all levels of fitness. As the valley is relatively flat, many of the trails are an easy relaxed stroll if you just want to get out into the fresh air and enjoy the views. On the other hand, if you are looking for a more challenging hike, there are plenty of longer or steeper trails to choose from. A good example of an easy trail is the Obersdorfer Rundweg (Obersdorf Circular Walk), which starts in Bad Mitterndorf and makes a loop to the outlying hamlet of Obersdorf and back again. This trail affords spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and meadows as you pass by picturesque farmhouses and chalets. At marked panels along the way you can read about the geological history of our valley. The total length of this walk is 10 km and the altitude fluctuates by only about 100 metres.
The above is just a very small selection of the walks available in the area. There is an excellent hiking map with all the trails in the area marked on it. You can buy this map at the local tourist office. |
