The Ausseerland (that's the area surrounding Bad Mitterndorf) is a fisherman’s paradise, without a doubt!

There are numerous beautiful, unspoilt lakes, rivers, and streams where you can try your hand at fishing with a fly or spinner.  All are well-stocked and in each and every one of them the water is crystal clear and generally of drinking-water-quality.  In fact, one of our local rivers - the Koppentraun - has been rated one of the best stretches of water in the world for fly-fishing!

The season runs from mid-March to the end of October and the main “catches of the day” are the following types of fish : brown trout, arctic char, rainbow trout and pike.

If you haven’t already tried fishing as a pastime and are interested in learning, tuition is available with all equipment supplied.

Ghillies are also available as well as boats for lake fishing.
