Bad Mitterndorf is one of the most-famous cross-country skiing resorts in Austria, with over 200 km of beautifully prepared skiing tracks (Loipen) in the surrounding area, most of which, unlike in many other resorts, can be used free of charge !

The tracks are prepared for both traditional and also skating-style, and as the valley is relatively flat, it’s a great place to learn the sport if you haven’t already tried it.  Lessons and equipment hire are available from our local ski school.

If you are an experienced cross-country skier, then you too will find plenty of challenging tracks in and around Bad Mitterndorf. Several national cross-country ski and biathlon teams regularly come to our village to train in the run-up to the winter season.

Whatever your level, you can drop in to recharge your batteries at one of the cosy “Hütten” (small log cabin restaurants) that are located alongside the cross-country tracks. Here you can relax inside or outside on the sunny terrace to enjoy the peace and quiet and be amazed by our spectacular scenery.
