Bad Mitterndorf was one of the first-ever skiing resorts in Austria, back in the days when you had to climb the mountain first before you could whiz down it on your skis!
The village lies at an altitude of 810 metres above sea level and is one of the two main places to stay for skiers wishing to enjoy the Tauplitzalm ski area. (For those who haven’t heard of Tauplitzalm before, it’s famous within Austria as being a snow-sure area - a real insider-tip!). Tauplitzalm offers a range of excellent slopes for intermediate skiers and beginners, as well as for snowboarders. It’s one of Austria’s best kept secrets and is not overcrowded – to find a long queue for a lift is extremely rare. In addition to Tauplitzalm, the following skiing areas are all just a short drive from our house: Hauser-Kaibling Hinterstoder-Höss Loser Planneralm Riesneralm Schladming (Planai) and Stoderzinken The driving time to these areas varies between about 30 – 45 minutes each way.
